Change Will Be Terrific

Performance, photo series, a rap song!, 2012

„Change Will Be Terrific“, a collaboration by Işıl Eğrikavuk and Jozef E. Amado is performance and an exhibition that models itself as a talk show.  Realized one year before Gezi events, the performance touches on several issues, the cementizing of Istanbul’s famous Taksim area and its booming tourism potential, the lack of producing new cultural sites, and Turkey’s then political strategy of (or lack of) helping its neighbor countries in crisis.

Presented by Turkish journalist and TV host Sevim Gözay, the performance hosts three characters: First, Egypt’s ‘most famous’ writer Amira Hanafi, then a Middle Eastern chef who lives in İstanbul, Yasser Dallal and finally architect Pars Pınarcıklıoğlu.

Architect Pınarcıklıoğlu announces the highlight of the night, a project called 3P, which claims to buy or rent Egypt’s Pyramids, Greece’s Parthenon and Syria’s Palymira and alternatively exhibit them in Istanbul’s Taksim square. Moving along the lines of fiction and reality, the performance concludes with a rap song Karar Bizim  (Our Decision) written by Işıl Eğrikavuk, Jozef E. Amado and famous rap artist Fuat Ergin.
